“One of the biggest takeaways was the education I received from the band. I’m not talking about the musical/physical education – The band taught me hard work and dedication to my friends, my community, and myself. On the big trips I did to Europe in 2009 and then to Japan in 2013 – my summers consisted of three weeks of 12-hour rehearsal days. I’ve never had to work so hard in my life. Without the dedication myself or my peers had to ourselves and our community, it never would have been possible.”  – Jonathan

“It has been 22 years since I have been out of the band…. And I still treasure friendships that I made back then. The time has looped around and now I cheer on and encourage my own child in her hopes of making it in the band (she is now in the Stetson Show Band). Hard work, determination, and sacrifice can bring the most rewarding experiences! THAT is what being in the Stampede Showband has taught me, which I now teach my kids.” – Bonnie

“The fondest memories of band are that of the friendships built during the years of band and the trips we all went on together. I still get tears in my eyes when I see or even here the band. It was and still is the best thing I did.” – TammyShowband_2

“In terms of takeaways, the Stampede Showband, and bands of Calgary as a whole, changed my life for the better. Every moment spent in the organization has served to propel me forward, as it’s a huge character builder: teaching the principles of teamwork, self-accountability, dedication, and community/ family, although that’s just skimming the surface of it. It’s made me a better person, and I’m sure that can apply to a large number of people who’ve been in band.” – Jasmyne

“The most important thing I learned about being in this band was the value of the arts, community, shared experiences, and hard work. The Showband provided me with so many opportunities I would not get anywhere else, and I’m very thankful for all the places I traveled, the people I met, and for all the memories.” – Colleen
