Dadanast’ ada everyone!

First I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Amber Big Plume, I am nineteen years old and I am from the Tsuu T’ina Nation. I’m a second year Law and Society student at the University of Calgary. I enjoy singing and playing the guitar.

It’s every little girls dream to grow up to become a princess, and I wasn’t an exception. I grew up around the Calgary Stampede and the Indian Village ever since I was a little girl. In 1999, When I was seven years old, my Godmother, Camille Wildman-Whitney was the Calgary Stampede Indian Princess and I always looked up to her and aspired to be like her one day. I’m the oldest of five children so I’ve always tried my best to be a role model for my younger siblings. These were just a few of my motivations to try out for this role.

Ever since the day of crowning, a smile has not left my face. My chaperones, the  sponsors, and everyone I have met have been nothing but welcoming and supportive. Like were one big stampede family. I want to give a HUGE thank you to the sponsors who have helped me so far this year!

Alberta Boot started my year off with a pair of cowboy boots. Janine’s Custom Creations for the start of such a beautiful wardrobe.  She designed me a one-of-a-kind Pendleton suit to honor our new sponsor Pendleton Woolen Mills and it has received such wonderful feedback! I’m so honored to have the first design. I would also like to thank Lammles and Wrangler for my new jeans and belts and Montana Silversmith for my beautiful jewellery!   I look forward to meeting and working with my other sponsors as my year progresses.

I have already completed three official events to date: Alderman Peter Demong’s Ward 14 BBQ, Happy Trails, and PCA saddle draw. They were all so much fun and I’ve met so many wonderful people!! Interviews with local newspapers, radio stations and sponsor visits have also been a highlight of the first week and a half of my reign

I’m excited to know who my stampede sisters will be as the final 6 in the Q and P competition wraps up with the crowning happening on Sunday. All of the contestants seem lovely and I wish them all the best of luck!

I am so excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Calgary Stampede Indian Princess and I’m looking forward to this upcoming year!!!
