I’m writing to update you on our awesome centennial project, the Time Capsule! Our committee has been busy canvassing Stampede patrons for submission ideas at the 4 Corners community events presented by BURNCO, the Lilac Festival, and of course online thru Twitter (#CStimecapsule) and the CS Blog.
Let’s bring to light and highlight one of the items that has made the cut and will be placed in the Time Capsule. Canada Post has recently released two commemorative stamps that embody our cities pride in western culture and pioneer spirit.
“Given the Stampede’s place in Western Canadian culture, it is fitting that we mark the event’s 100th Anniversary in a number of important ways,” said the Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and Member of Parliament for Calgary Southeast. “These stamps are beautifully designed and truly capture the heart of the Calgary Stampede.”
I’m the first to admit to love receiving parcels and letters in the mail- wouldn’t it be great to come home to one adorned with one of these gorgeous centennial stamps? They have been designed by Calgarian artist Xerxes Irani, and if having these incredible collectors items in your possession isn’t cool enough… to up the ante, these stamps allow you some augmented reality too- When used in conjunction with the Canada Post Stamps Alive app for smart phones and tablets, one stamp depicts a virtual horse you are able to interact with, pet, and change its colour, while the other stamp reveals a barrel-racing game, where you are able to try and beat your own time, or submit your score to Facebook and Twitter. So neat!!
