If you’re a hockey fan like I am, then there’s lots of things to look forward to on Park in the next seven days. The finals of the Mac’s Midget Hockey Tournament and the Calgary Flames’ Danone SuperSkills competition highlight the week ahead, along with plenty of Flames and Hitmen regular season action.

A holiday tradition here in Calgary, the 31st annual Mac’s Midget Hockey Tournament features male and female AAA hockey teams from around the world in competition. Many players who have participated in this competition have moved onto successful careers in the NHL, so it’s a great way to glimpse potential future stars in action! The tournament started on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) and will culminate on New Year’s Day (Jan. 1) with the male and female finals to be played at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Tickets for the tournament are available at all Calgary Mac’s Convenience Store locations, each of the tournament facilities during the tournament, and tickets for the final game at the Saddledome are available from Ticketmaster.

Another annual event, the Danone SuperSkills competition will be held on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Pengrowth Saddledome, and is always a hit with families and Flames fans. This skills competition features the entire Calgary Flames team with players going head to head against each other in competition to see who is the best player in the following categories: Puck Control Relay, Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Shooting Accuracy, and Breakaway Relay. A fun time is always had by fans and players alike. Tickets are available for $10 from all Calgary Co-op customer service counters, and for $12 through Ticketmaster.

The NHL’s Calgary Flames also play three times this week at the Saddledome. On Wednesday, Dec. 30, the Los Angeles Kings come to town, game time is at 7:30 p.m. for that one. New Year’s Eve features the Edmonton Oilers, and as is done every year, look forward to some New Year’s festivities after the game. Game time is at 7 p.m. Finally, the Toronto Maple Leafs visit on Saturday Jan. 2 for a little Hockey Night in Canada action. These games are always fun to watch in person as the “Leafs Nation” usually comes out in force. Start time for that game is 5 p.m. Tickets for all Flames games are available through Ticketmaster.

Finally, the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen play twice this week at the Saddledome. First, they take on the Regina Pats on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. followed by the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. Tickets for all Hitmen games are available through Ticketmaster.

Hope everyone’s having a very Happy Holidays so far! Have a safe and Happy New Year, and we’ll see you here next week on the Stampede Blog where we’ll show you some more of the things happening Here. All Year.
