Welcome to this week’s What’s Happening!  From football parties to hockey, from craft shows to dog shows, there’s something for everyone this week at Stampede Park.

Oh, and if you’re keeping track: Only 31 more shopping days to go until Christmas!

First, H1N1 vaccinations will continue to be given this week at the Stampede Grandstand to all Albertians who haven’t had their vaccinations yet. To find out more information on H1N1 clinic locations and hours, see Alberta Health Services. Parking at the Grandstand Building for the duration of the H1N1 clinic is free.

Trying to beat the holiday rush? Well, you have two great opportunities to do so on Park this week!

  • First, the Festival of Crafts is this week. This is a great show where you’ll find some of the most unique handmade products around and get to meet the artists, artisans, and designers who made them! I always go to this show and find so many great gifts and goodies for people! BMO Centre, November 26-29.  For more information, click here.
  • Also, why not head down to the Calgary Stampede Store? They’ve got lots of unique gift ideas at various pricing levels, and their current promotion includes a buy one, get one free deal on pairs of plush cowboy boot slippers! Looking for more deals? Make sure you stop by the store on Friday, Dec. 4 for their special holiday sales event. And while you’re down there, why not sign up for the Stampede Store’s Loyalty Program and put those purchases towards cool freebies for yourself? If you can’t make it down, you can also purchase authentic Calgary Stampede merchandise through the on-line store.

The Calgary Kennel and Obedience Club will be holding their annual Winter Show at the Big Four Building, Lower Level, on November 27-29. Come watch as three different classes go head to head against each other.

Grey Cup fever has hit Stampede Park!  Several events will be held on Park as part of this year’s Grey Cup festivities:

  • There is the Touchdown Manitoba party in Hall E of the BMO Centre, Friday, Nov. 27 from 1-6 p.m.  Come and experience the goodwill and hospitality of Winnipeg and Manitoba at the BIGGEST Manitoba Social of Grey Cup Week.
  • Music anyone? The Grey Cup Gala Concert is the premier concert event of the Grey Cup weekend and will feature a cross-section of award winning Canadian artists from coast to coast. Sophie Milman, The Canadian Tenors, Divine Brown, and George Canyon will take the stage before Canadian party rockers Great Big Sea headline the final bill of the concert.  The concert takes place at the Saddledome, Saturday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m.  Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
  • Finally, if you missed out on game tickets, there is the SportChek Grey Cup Family Viewing Party which is proudly presented by TSN. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch the spirit of the Grey Cup by watching the game on the big screen at the Saddledome on Sunday, Nov. 29. This will be an alcohol free, family friendly event with an interactive zone on the floor for the kids. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. Get your tickets at all SportChek or Calgary Safeway locations.

And now, for something a little different:

  • “On the 12th day of Christmas my true love gave to me:  12 shiny tubas, 11 clarinet players, 10 flags-a-blowing, nine dancers spinning, eight drums-a-tapping…” Haven’t heard this take on the popular Christmas carol? Well, then it’s about time you took part in a Stampede Showband Christmas. The Stampede Showband will perform, along with several other local bands, on Wednesday, December 2 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium in A Festive Showcase. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster.

Finally, the NHL’s Calgary Flames hosts the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday Nov. 25 at the Pengrowth Saddledome before taking off on a road trip for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully the Flames will have a great trip!

Well, I think that’s about it for this week. Tune into the Stampede Blog next Monday where we’ll highlight some more of the things happening Here. All Year.
